Pool Cue Cases FAQ's

It depends on your needs. If you are simply going to the pool hall and want an easy-to-carry cue case, you may prefer a soft or lightweight cue case, such as Urbain Soft or Sport Soft cue cases. If you are traveling and want better cue protection, then opt for a hard case such as a Roadline hard cue case.

Hard cases are either made with a round or oval PVC plastic tube, or a rigid rectangular box structure. They protect cues from stronger or heavier shocks than soft cue cases, which are usually chosen because of their light weight.

It is usually best to keep your pool cue in a horizontal position on a cue rack or lying flat. Avoid leaning a pool cue against the wall where it is not straight up, to reduce the risk of warpage — especially if your cue or shaft is made of wood. It is also a good idea to keep it away from sunlight to avoid discoloration over time and damage from exposure to heat.

In the United States, billiard cues are not allowed as carry-on baggage, and your cue case will need to be checked instead. If you have a hard case, you may be able to check it as-is, but most pool players prefer to pack their cue case inside a larger suitcase or travel bag.
