REVO Shaft Care Instructions

REVO carbon fiber shafts are built differently from wood, and they're maintained differently, too. Below you'll find answers to the most common questions that REVO owners ask, plus the full care routine to keep your shaft performing as it did on day one.

Never sand, polish, or use abrasives on a REVO shaft. Its diameter and finish are precision-built and cannot be altered — doing so will damage the shaft's structural integrity, void the limited-lifetime warranty, and can release carbon fiber dust that's harmful to breathe in. Never use talcum powder, baby powder, hand chalk, or any other shaft treatment on a REVO shaft. Learn more about how to maintain a carbon fiber pool cue shaft.

How to clean your REVO shaft:

  • Wipe the shaft with the included microfiber cloth to brush away loose dirt, dust, and debris.
  • Using a REVO cleaning wipe or a soft cloth with a reasonable amount of 90% isopropyl alcohol, work from the joint end toward the tip, rotating your hand around the shaft's circumference. Some visible dirt on the towel is normal. Continue until the whole shaft has been wiped, then let it dry for 1–2 minutes.

CLEANING YOUR UNI-LOC JOINT:
Clean the Original Uni-Loc Quick-Release joint when you first receive your cue, then every six months after. Use a Q-tip dipped in 90% isopropyl alcohol for the inside threads and bore of the shaft insert, and a clean rag with alcohol for the joint pin and threads. Joint protectors are recommended to keep debris out between cleanings.

PROTECTING YOUR SHAFT DAY-T0-DAY:
REVO shafts aren't designed to withstand heavy lateral pressure — avoid excessive bending, and don't knock the shaft against the table or other objects. A hard case and joint protectors are the best everyday protection.

BK Rush vs. REVO 12.9: What's the Difference?

The REVO BK Rush shaft is purpose-built for breaking. Its front end is optimized with extra stiffness to generate a higher coefficient of restitution (COR), giving the cue ball more speed off the break than a standard REVO 12.9.

You can break with a standard REVO 12.9 — it holds up fine. But BK Rush is engineered specifically for maximum break speed, and its hybrid tip is designed to hit with the same power as a phenolic break tip while still giving you better chalk adhesion and cue ball control than a typical break tip allows.

In short:

  • Choose REVO 12.9 if you want one shaft for both playing and occasional breaking.
  • Choose BK Rush if breaking hard and consistently is a priority and you'd rather keep a dedicated shaft for it.

12.4, 12.9 & BK-R

REVO CARBON COMPOSITE PLAYING SHAFTS

REVO carbon composite shafts — both the 12.4/12.9 playing shafts and the BK-R break shaft — have no ferrule. The front end is instead built from the Predator V-TEK vault plate paired with either a red V-TEK Tip Silencer and eight-layer Victory Tip (playing shafts) or a gray R-Break Shield and seven-layer BK Hybrid Tip (BK-R). Because the shaft cannot be sanded, replacing the tip and/or silencer/shield should only be done by an authorized Predator Repair Center equipped with the proper tools to protect your REVO shaft.

If you choose to have it replaced by a non-authorized cue technician instead, the silencer or shield must remain at least .010" (0.25mm) thick to maintain the shaft's integrity — any reduction below that thickness will void the shaft's limited-lifetime warranty and compromise its performance.

SHAFT DIAMETER

REVO carbon composite shaft diameters must never be altered. Any sanding, polishing, or abrasive treatment could compromise the micro-thin layers of carbon fiber and will immediately void the shaft’s warranty. Additionally, the use of abrasives on a REVO shaft can release potentially harmful carbon fiber dust.

DIAMETER OF SHAFTS AND BUTTS AT THE JOINT

If you are considering purchasing a Predator shaft and wondering if the transition at the joint will be smooth with your cue, you can measure the diameter of your cue butt at the joint.

All of our shafts and butts have a diameter range at the joint end that is between .839" (21.31 mm) and .842" (21.38 mm). 

If the diameter of your cue butt at the joint is within the .839" to .842" range, then the transition at the joint should feel smooth, provided that the pin is centered properly on the butt.

WARPAGE

REVO carbon composite shafts feature a limited-lifetime warranty against warpage.

ABUSE

REVO carbon composite shafts are not designed to withstand extensive lateral pressure. They should not be bent excessively, hit on the table or other objects, or treated with any abrasives, solid or liquid. We recommend protecting your shaft with a case and joint protectors.

REVO SHAFT FINISH MAINTENANCE

REVO carbon composite shafts should never be sanded or modified. Sanding the surface of the REVO shaft will damage the exterior finish and weaken the shaft’s structural integrity and release potentially harmful materials that could affect your health. Any sanding, polishing, or treatment of the surface of the shaft with chemicals or abrasives of any kind will void the shaft’s limited-lifetime warranty and negatively affect the shaft’s longevity and performance. Never use talcum powder, baby powder, hand chalk, or other shaft treatments on a REVO carbon fiber composite shaft.

CLEANING

To clean the surface of your REVO carbon composite shaft, you can use one of the following two solutions: REVO Wipes, or Isopropyl Alcohol (90%) cleaning.

  • Step 1. Wipe the shaft with the included microfiber cleaning cloth, brushing away any lose dirt, dust and debris.
  • Step 2. Using a REVO wipe or soft cloth towel with a reasonable amount of Isopropyl Alcohol (90%), work up and down the shaft, from the joint end toward the tip while rotating your hand around the shaft’s circumference. You may see dirt on the towelette – this is normal. Continue to work the shaft until all areas have been thoroughly wiped, allowing 1-2 minutes for the surface to dry.

THE ORIGINAL UNI-LOC® JOINT. We recommend cleaning the Original Uni-Loc® Quick Release joint when you first receive your cue and every six months thereafter. These joints are precision manufactured to exact tolerances and even a modest amount of dirt can create a problem. You can use a Q-Tip dipped in Isopropyl Alcohol (90%) to clean the inside threads and bore of the shaft insert. Clean the joint pin and threads with alcohol and a clean rag. We recommend the use of joint protectors to help keep your joint clean and to protect it from damage.

BK Hybrid Tip Wear and Maintenance

BK Hybrid Tips are featured, exclusively, on Predator break and break/jump cues, such as the BK Rush and Air Rush. Due to its outstanding break peformance, the BK Hybrid Tip has become one of our most requested tips. They are offered through repair services provided by Predator Warranty and Repair, and are not available as single-purchase items.

As the BK Hybrid Tip wears down, each layer will "slough off". This is the normal manner in which the BK Hybrid Tip wears. This type of wear does not occur with a standard, leather tip.

This tip is a proprietary phenolic/leather blend and requires regular maintenance, which may include scuffing, shaping, and burnishing. A dime radius is recommended for optimum performance. As you break with the tip, it will become flattened out in the center. The top layer will become smaller and smaller, and the edges of that layer will become exposed. The layer can easily be removed through regular tip maintenance, or shedding on its own, to reveal the next layer. Once the new layer is revealed, you should shape the crown of your tip, and burnish the sides, as necessary.

REVO Carbon Fiber Care Questions

Predator REVO shafts are made of a proprietary carbon fiber composite. This composite is formed using unidirectional aerospace-grade carbon fiber tow impregnated with our proprietary resin and filled with R2 molecular multi-density foam.

Predator REVO shafts are on average 5-10% more accurate than Predator’s third-generation shafts, depending on the velocity of the cue ball, distance to the object ball, and amount of spin used.

Predator REVO shafts have even lower deflection than Predator spliced shafts and an even greater hit consistency, but they do feel somewhat different. From their ultra low-friction surface, to the sound they make upon impact with the ball, playing with a Predator REVO shaft is a different experience.

The key difference between the REVO 12.4 and 12.9 shafts is their respective diameters. The two sizes were developed to offer players more comfort and varied tip placement options. Because of their low-rise taper, there is only a 3% percent difference in rise between the two models when measured over the first fourteen inches from the tip. Bridge comfort and tip-diameter preference should be the main considerations when selecting a preferred REVO shaft diameter.

Predator REVO shafts have a unique acoustic signature. Because of its construction, it can amplify sound at a much greater rate than wood, providing audible feedback that indicates how each shot was struck. This feedback changes in tone when paired with varying joint collars, inserts, and fitments.

No, they are only available in carbon matte gray/black. Any attempt to change or modify the color would alter and damage the low-friction surface finish on the shaft, adding unnecessary weight.

While it may be “possible”, we haven’t been able to achieve this feat. REVO shafts are guaranteed to never warp and feature a limited-lifetime warranty. In testing, we placed REVO shafts in a freezer, various high-humidity environments, and even in an oven; each time the shafts held their remarkable straightness.

Predator REVO shafts are highly ding resistant and their surface is much stronger than wood. They can be scratched, and sharp edges can cut the finish, but no typical impacts in testing have damaged the REVO shafts’ surface.

No, the taper and the diameter must remain the same. Any change would not only destroy the Predator REVO shafts’ low-friction finish, but would also compromise performance, damaging the micro-thin layers of unidirectional carbon fiber tow and releasing potentially hazardous carbon fiber dust as well.

No, Predator REVO shafts do not have a ferrule. Because of the stiffness and strength of the carbon fiber composite construction, there is no need to add the additional weight and mass of a ferrule to the shafts’ construction. Doing so would decrease the shafts’ superb accuracy.

Yes, you can change the tip on any REVO shaft. We recommend only having the tip replaced at an authorized Predator Repair Center. Due to the shaft’s more complex construction, extra care must be used in changing the tip, ensuring that the shaft isn’t sanded, and the Vault Plate and V-Tek tip silencer maintain their appropriate dimensions.

Yes, you can break with a REVO 12.9 playing shaft; it’s strong enough, but it is not optimized for breaking. Its construction was
developed as a playing shaft. The Predator BK-RUSH features a break optimized REVO BK-R carbon fiber composite break shaft. We do not recommend breaking with
REVO 12.4 or 11.8 shafts.

Never use abrasives or chemicals on a REVO shaft; doing so will damage the shaft’s surface and performance. To clean a REVO shaft’s surface, simply brush off any exterior dirt with the supplied microfiber cleaning cloth, and then wipe the shaft with a REVO cleaning wipe or a soft cloth treated with isopropyl alcohol (90%). Our 30” shafts are available with the Custom REVO Program for the 12.4 and 12.9, but it is not available for the 11.8 at this time.

The Revo BK Rush shaft is designed for breaking, and its front end has been optimized for breaking by adding extra stiffness to generate a higher Coefficient of Restitution (COR) and give the cue ball a higher speed compared to a standard REVO 12.9 shaft.

You can break with a standard REVO shaft, but the BK Rush shaft has been designed to give you the fastest cue ball speed for a more powerful break. Also, the BK Rush hybrid tip is designed to play with the same power as a phenolic tip, but allows better chalk adhesion and cue ball control.
